Sing Loud…And Sing Proud…

The shame stops here!!

There is no need to be ashamed that you sing loud and proud…

…when in your car!

Even without tented windows, the privacy that comes within one’s car can be enough to make some people become people that they “typically aren’t;” or at least the person that you might think them to be! Even your quietest of friends probably would sing aloud in their car if they were alone and a well-known tune came across the radio.

Some of us sing in the car even in the midst of company; I suppose it just depends on who the company might be. However, with company, the singing probably tends to be a lower scale.

It’s when we are alone in our car I think that our voice really can come out. I sing loud and proud in my car all the time, even under the complete understanding that I am NOT a good singer! HA! And yes, I get into my singing…HA!

Typically I go through stages of being “hooked” on a certain song or two, and that song or songs will be played over and over again, quite loudly in my car. Windows down too, many times!

Right now my favorite sing-alongs come from my “On-the-go” playlist on my iPod. This playlist consists of four songs. The first song is Not Ready to Make Nice by the Dixie Chicks. The second song is Not Ready to Make Nice by the Dixie Chicks. The third song is Not Ready to Make Nice by the Dixie Chicks. And, though you could probably guess it, I’ll go ahead and tell you that the fourth song is Not Ready to Make Nice by the Dixie Chicks.

[Can you tell I wish iPod had a “repeat” function?! And if you’re saying to yourself right now “it does,” then I’ve yet to figure out how to use it.]

With the buzz about the soon-to-be-released new album by The Chicks, I decided to check out this first single release from the album and I was sold on the first hearing/viewing (I watched the video on the internet).

I love this song, and it is GREAT for singing loudly to in your car! I love the lyrics. And though my iPod tells me I have already listened to it more than 113 times just since adding it to my iPod a week ago today, I probably learned all its lyrics within the first five or so times listening to it. It is a REALLY easy song to learn.

My FAVORITE part of the whole song is the part I sing with the most passion and probably the loudest..HA! It goes like this…

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby

With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’

It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her

Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger

And how in the world can the words that I said

Send somebody so over the edge

That they’d write me a letter

Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing

Or my life will be over

I love that part! Natalie Maines sings with such passion at that part! I just love it!

I think that part also probably has special meaning to me because I can totally relate to each part of that section in reference to situations in my own life, especially with current events right now.

So I sing it, over and over and over, in my car. Loud and proud…

What about you? Don’t be ashamed. I think you would be surprised at home many people really do sing aloud in their cars.

Do you sing when you are alone in your car? Do you sing “loud and proud?”

I totally have you beat! According to my iPod I have listened to "Not Ready to Make Nice" 148 times so far! Of course I only listened to it twice today (and your favorite part is my favorite part). I love to sing loud and proud in my car, although I do tone it down some when there are others in the car (sometimes).

P.S. From the main iPod menu, select "Settings" then select "Repeat." You can then set it to repeat One, All, or Off. :-)

Wait a second though...how long have you had "Not Ready to Make Nice" on your iPod?!? ;) I've only had it on mine for a week and have that many...HA! I'm bad! ;)

Score...thanks for the "repeat" help...honestly, I got my iPod for christmas and still haven't really completely looked into all the options and settings is has. HA! I basically just play music...HA!

And yeah, I try to do my passengers a favor and tone it down if I'm in a singing mood, when they are in the car...HA! It's a common courtesy I offer in my car. ;)

My current car song is "Ignition (Remix)" by R. Kelly. It just happens to be on the mix CD you made us after our first GATA talent show performance! (Which is great, by the way--that CD and a long drive are how I learned the words to Ice, Ice, Baby.)

A.Lo--way to be bustin' out some old school...good ol' "Ignition"...HA!

Yeah, gotta love our talent show acts and "Ice Ice Baby!"

Julesforstenholem--yeah, I'm guilty of "moving" in my car too! Oh well...I'll save that for another post! ;)

Hmm...don't know that I remember the exact "trip" you're referring too, but I do remember the obsession you had with that song. I just thought that was a funny song for you to be obsessed with, but it sure ended up as "your song" on the cd we made! ;)

On another note...I think my iPod is messed up! Starting last night I can't get it to "turn off." It just stays on (though I can pause it, so it doesn't play songs), but it won't shut down, leaving it to constantly be using the battery. I need to try to figure out what its deal is.

Dude, I didn't know we had so much in common! I also KNOW that I have a not-so-great singing voice, and yet I still sing loud and proud when I'm in the car. Even if Matt's in the car, I don't tone it down; although for anyone else I'll be nice and just hum. :) And, yeah, I dance/move in the car all the time--on long drives it can sometimes be the only way to keep from going insane, or to sleep! And also like you, I have a new-ish iPod and really have no idea how to use it for anything other than playing songs, so don't feel bad-I'll be iPod challenged with you. But sorry, can't be vertically challenged with you--hehe. :)

iPod expert to the rescue. To manually turn off your iPod hold down the "play" button until it turns off. To restart your iPod (in case it freezes) hold down the "menu" and middle select button at the same time until it turns off and restarts (it can take up to 30 seconds). It doesn't erase your music or anything, just reboots the iPod.

I've had "Not Ready to Make Nice" since March 19 and hit the 100th mark the first week. I haven't listened to it much recently, my current rockin' out in the car song is "I Hate Everyone" by Get Set Go.

You are probably asking this so you can contact that show we saw at Dustin's house where they hide a camera in a person's car and watch them sing, aren't you? ;)
